Tamsin Green (18) possesses the magic art of animal telepathy, which got her exiled, and a fiercely protective nature, that got her dearest friends killed. On her way to the island of her exile, Tamsin is tortured with guilt and she vows to quell her fire.
Then she meets the young king of the island, who’s being puppeted by his lord regent and suppressed in his magic studies.
She also meets Lyss Mawrsdotter (16), an ambassador from a people near extinction. Lyss is on her way to present a peace treaty, but her painful naivete in diplomacy lands her in a dangerous engagement to the king.
Tamsin’s interference in her new friends' troubles could cost her life, but even worse, it could cost the king and Lyss theirs. Blood from both sides is on the line, and the girls’ fragile friendship must keep their world from shattering.
